Compounds
Special formulations and large-scale production granulates
In compounding, plastic raw materials are melted with fillers or additives, extruded to give thin strands and then cut into granulate. With this process, the characteristics of the plastics are adapted for a special application, e.g. by improving the sliding friction characteristics or increasing the electrical conductivity.
ENSINGER COMPOUNDS supplies customers with high-performance plastics and compounds, which are tailor-made to match specific applications using fillers and additives.
Radiopaque plastics, anti-microbial granulates and the customised colouring of high performance plastics in the field of medicine and foodstuffs are part of the focus of ENSINGER COMPOUNDS. The MT (medical technology) plastics, additives and colours used fulfil the conditions that satisfy FDA conformity and are certified according to DIN ISO 10993 (USP VI). Whether an individual formulation for a customer's development or tried and tested granulates from a broad standard programme, or even material for small or bulk volumes - the customer recieves everything from a single source.
Coloured Plastics.
ENSINGER material specialists match the colours of engineering and high-temperature plastics with suitable pigments according to the colour requirements of the user. Special know-how is available for colouration of PEEK.
Antimicrobial Plastics
Antimicrobial plastics prevent the growth of bacteria, yeasts and moulds. The bactericidal effect is based on a patented dosing system, which sepcifically releases silver ions. Moisture and increased temperature accelerate the release of the ions compounded into the material, which gradually reach the surface where they kill micro-organisms. As only a small amount of the active substance is added, the physical and the chemical properties of the plastics (mechanical / electrical characteristics, tribology, chemical stability, etc.) only change marginally. The antimicrobial effect - and hence protection from infections and food poisonings - on the other hand, remains the same over a period of many years, even if the surface is wiped frequently.
